On May 25, the key event of the year for professionals in the waterproofing industry, Aquastop 2026, concluded in St. Petersburg. The XIV International Professional Conference on Waterproofing of Underground and Buried Structures.

LLC “Tomography of Reinforced Concrete” at AQUASTOP 2026.

Leading engineer of the A. A. Gvozdev Research Institute of Reinforced Concrete and LLC “Tomography of Reinforced Concrete”, Alexander Vysokin, presented a report at the conference entitled “Integrated Use of the Ground Penetrating Radar and Ultrasonic Echo Method in Technical Inspection of Monolithic Reinforced Concrete Tanks and Underground Structures.”

The report presented the experience of joint use of the ultrasonic echo method (ultrasonic tomography method) and the ground penetrating radar method in technical inspection of underground structures, their capabilities, applicability limits, and limitations.

The report concludes that, given the factors complicating the inspection of the technical condition of reinforced concrete tanks and underground structures, as well as the advantages and limitations of each method, their combined use allows for:

— obtaining a greater volume of information about the structures being inspected (synergistic effect);

— partially mutually compensating for the limitations or shortcomings of each method;

— reducing, but not eliminating, the need to use destructive methods (performing test openings, taking core samples).
